Jan - Apr 2009 - The inaugural jazz series at The Studio at Billings Forge set the tone for a multi-use space designed to foster cultural expression and inclusivity. Held monthly, the series featured incredible talent like Jason Palmer, Richie Barshay, and Jimmy Green , and aimed to attract both seasoned jazz enthusiasts and local residents from the surrounding Billings Forge community. To ensure accessibility, the events operated on a donation basis, removing financial barriers for those who might otherwise find it challenging to attend. As the programmer, I handled every detail—from selecting the artists to cleaning up on event days—and the series quickly made a splash citywide, establishing The Studio as a new cultural hotspot. One memorable moment was when a resident father brought his young daughter to a concert. Unable to stay himself, he asked if she could attend alone, and I assured him I would watch over her. It was a touching reminder of how spaces like these can spark inspiration in young minds, planting the seed for a lifelong passion for the arts.
