The Hartford City Hall Lunchtime Music Series was a vibrant celebration of arts and community, held in the stunning atrium of Hartford’s historic Beaux-Arts City Hall at 550 Main Street. The series featured the exceptional Jen Allen Trio—Jen Allen on piano, Matt Dwonszyk on bass, and Jonathan Palmer on drums—who filled the space with soulful jazz melodies. Their performance was framed by a breathtaking 25-foot Christmas tree made entirely of poinsettias and the powerful 8' x 32' mural "Sugar Beet Workers / Trabajando En La Remolacha" by Carlos Hernández Chávez, which honors the legacy of migrant workers and their contributions. Organized in collaboration with artist Andres Chaparro during my term as a Hartford city councilor, this series aimed to connect the public with local arts and culture while highlighting the city hall’s beauty as a civic and cultural hub. As a champion for the arts in Hartford, I was proud to see this series create a warm and inclusive atmosphere, drawing a diverse audience and reinforcing the role of arts in fostering community spirit.
